AI analysis

Let AI find the main themes across participants, with sentiment and the quotes that support each one, then review them.

The Analysis tab reads your study's answers and transcripts with AI. It suggests the main themes across participants, with the sentiment and the answers and moments that support each one. You then review each theme.

Before you start

The analysis needs an AI provider. It uses your agency's own provider when you have one under Settings, AI, and otherwise Zolensa's AI, if the Zolensa admin has set it up. Without either, you see "No AI provider is set up." DeepL cannot be used, because it only translates. See Use your own AI provider.

Your answers and transcripts are sent to that provider.

Run an analysis

  1. Open the study and click the Analysis tab.
  2. Open Run the analysis. After the first one, it reads Run a new analysis.
  3. Under What to analyse, choose All tasks or one task.
  4. Optional: under Focus, write what you want to understand, such as why people choose one brand over another.
  5. Optional: tick Include test participants. It is ticked for you while there are no real answers yet.
  6. Click Analyse.

It usually takes one to three minutes. The page refreshes itself. A study runs one analysis at a time. If it fails, you see "The last analysis did not finish" with the reason.

What the analysis reads

  • written answers, choices, ratings and journey map answers
  • transcripts of videos and voice notes, in short passages, each with its moment. Translated transcripts are used when there is one.
  • what the AI read in photos and screen recordings
  • transcripts of interviews and group discussions, when you analyse All tasks

Recordings without a finished transcript are left out. See Transcripts and search. Each run has a size limit. If a selection is larger, the most recent answers are left out, and the result says how many. To cover everything, analyse one task at a time.

If nothing has changed since the same analysis last ran (same task, same focus, no new answers or transcripts), it is not run again, as it would give the same result. You see a message saying so.

Read the results

The top card shows what was analysed, how many participants, and when. Below are your Focus, a summary, and the share of Positive, Mixed, Neutral and Negative answers among those that express an opinion. To see an earlier analysis, choose it from the list in the top card.

Each theme shows its title, its sentiment, how many participants and pieces of evidence support it, and a summary. Themes backed by the most participants come first.

Under each theme is its evidence:

  • the quote, with a dot for its sentiment
  • the participant code, with the day and task, or Live interview or Group discussion
  • for a video or voice note, the times of the moment, such as 0:12 to 0:40. Click them to play just that moment.
  • Open the entry, or Open the interview

Every quote is checked word for word against what the participant said or wrote. Other evidence shows the start of the answer. Click Show all to see more than four.

Review the themes

  • Accept: marks the theme Accepted and moves it up.
  • Reject: moves the theme into the rejected list at the bottom.
  • Restore: brings a rejected theme back.
  • Edit: change the Title, Summary and Sentiment, then click Save and accept.

Keep evidence as a highlight

Click Keep as highlight under a piece of evidence. Zolensa adds a highlight for that answer, or for that moment in the recording. The quote becomes the note, and the theme title becomes its tag. This is not available for live interview evidence.

You can then use the highlight in a reel. See Highlights and Highlight reels.

Average journey

Each journey map question with answers gets its own card at the top of the tab, titled Journey: and the question. It shows a chart and a table with each step's Average feeling out of 5, the share who Felt bad (1 or 2), and how many Rated by. The lowest step is marked Pain point when its average is below 3.5.

When participants wrote their own steps, it shows the most common ones. Test participants count only when there are no real answers. This card needs no AI.

Who can do this

Everyone with access to the study can see the Analysis tab, including clients. Owners, researchers and moderators can run analyses, review themes and keep highlights.
