Translate your study
Translate task and question texts on screen, with AI, or with a translator's spreadsheet, and check that every language is complete.
You write tasks and questions in the study's main language. On the Translations tab you add the other languages, so each participant reads the study in their own language.
Open the Translations tab
- Open the study and click Translations. Owners and researchers see this tab.
- Click a language at the top. Each language shows how many texts are done, such as 12/20, or a tick when it is complete.
You see every text grouped by task: task titles, instructions, questions, help texts, rating end labels and answer options. The main language is on the left and the translation box on the right. Only texts that exist in the main language are listed.
If the study has only one language, the tab says "Nothing to translate". Add languages with Edit study details. See Create a study.
Translate on screen
- Type the translation into each box.
- Click Save followed by the language name, for example Save German.
Click Show only missing to see just the texts that still need a translation. Click Show all texts to see everything again. If you empty a box and save, that translation is removed.
The "Other (please say)" option is filled in for every language automatically. You can change its wording.
Translate with AI
- Click Translate German with AI (with your language name).
- Wait while Zolensa fills in the empty boxes. The texts it fills in are highlighted.
- Read each one and correct it where needed.
- Click Save followed by the language name.
Nothing is saved until you click Save. Tick Also redo texts that are already translated to replace existing translations too.
AI translation uses Zolensa's AI, or your own AI provider if an owner has set one up. If AI translation is not set up, the box says so. See Use your own AI provider.
Work with a translator
- Under Work with a translator, click Download German sheet (CSV) (with your language name).
- Send the file to your translator. They fill in the last column only.
- When it comes back, choose the file and click Upload.
The sheet has the columns key, where, what, the main language text and the translation. When you upload it:
- Empty cells are left as they were.
- The sheet must be for the language you have open. If not, you see which language it is for.
- A text that is too long is not saved. You see a list of those texts.
You can download a fresh sheet at any time. It includes the translations you already have.
Check that every language is complete
- The language buttons on the Translations tab show what is missing.
- The Set-up checklist on the Overview shows each language's progress.
- The Participant preview next to each task marks texts that are "not translated". See Preview a task as participants see it.
Incomplete translations do not stop a study going live. Participants see any missing text in the main language. Zolensa shows a reminder on the Overview before you go live.
Tip: If you change a text in the main language later, check its translations too. They are not updated for you.
The consent form
The consent form has its own editor with standard wording in every language. The Consent form box on the Translations tab shows what is missing in the language you have open. Click Open consent form to finish it. See The consent form.
