Preview a task as participants see it

Before participants see a task, check how it looks on their phone. Zolensa gives you a quick preview next to each task, and test participants let you try the real thing.

Open the preview

1. Open the study and go to the Tasks tab.
2. Click a task, or click Open next to it.
3. Look at Participant preview next to the questions.

The preview shows the task as a phone screen:

• the day number, the task title and the instructions
• each question with its help text, and "(optional)" for questions that are not required
• what participants do for each type, for example "Record video · up to 2 min", the photo slots, the answer options or the rating scale with its end labels
• whether participants can upload existing videos or photos, or must record in the moment
• the Send button

The preview updates each time you save a question. Questions you have not written yet show as placeholders.

Check each language

If the study has more than one language, language buttons such as EN and DE appear above the preview. Click one to see the task in that language.

Texts that have no translation yet are shown in the main language and marked "not translated". Fill them in on the Translations tab. See Translate your study.

Preview the consent form

The Consent tab has its own preview, called What participants see. It shows the title, the information text, the tick boxes and the signature box in the language you choose. See The consent form.

Try it for real

The preview is a picture. You cannot type into it, and it does not show or hide questions based on answers. To try recording, uploads and conditions, add yourself or a colleague as a test participant:

1. Go to the Participants tab.
2. Add yourself and tick Test participant.
3. Send yourself the invitation and open it on your phone.
4. Sign the consent form and do each task.

Test participants can join and answer while the study is a draft or paused, as well as when it is live. Their answers appear in Responses marked Test. On a free trial, they do not count towards your participant limit. See Test participants.

Note: Test participants also need a published consent form before they can be invited.

Tasks open on their day, counted from the day the test participant signs the consent form. If you want to try a later day's task straight away, set it to day 1 while you test, then set it back.

Before you go live

Check that:

• every task has at least one question, because participants do not see tasks without questions
• every language reads well
• recordings and uploads work on the phones your participants use
