Download all files as a ZIP

You can download all videos, photos and voice notes of a study in one ZIP file, together with every answer. Zolensa prepares the ZIP in the background and emails you when it is ready.

Ask for a download

To download only some entries:

1. Go to the Responses tab.
2. Set the filters you want and click Show. For example, one task, one group, or Test answers set to Hidden.
3. Click Download files. With filters set, the button reads Download files (filtered).

To download everything:

1. Go to the Downloads tab.
2. Click Prepare a download of everything.

Either way, you land on the Downloads tab with the message "Your download is being prepared."

Wait for it to be ready

Large studies can hold many gigabytes, so the ZIP is built in the background. You can leave the page.

When it is ready, you get an email with the number of files and the size, and a Download it button that opens the Downloads tab. Only the person who asked gets the email.

The Downloads tab shows each download with:

• when it was asked for, and by whom
• what it holds: Every entry, or the filters used, and the number of files
• its status: Waiting, Preparing, Ready with the date it is kept until, or Failed with the reason
• its size, and a Download button once it is ready

While a download is being prepared, the page refreshes itself.

A study can have two downloads in preparation at a time. Wait for one to finish before you ask for a third.

What is in the ZIP

• README.txt: what the download contains and when it was made
• answers.csv: every answer of the included entries, with the same columns as the answers export. See Export answers and highlights as CSV.
• one folder per participant, named as they appear to you in Responses: their code, plus the first name when your team sees first names

Inside each participant's folder there is one folder per entry, named by the day and the task, such as "day-2 Breakfast". If the task can be answered more than once, the entry number is added.

Files are named by question number and type, such as "Q1 video.mp4" or "Q3 photo 2.jpg". The question numbers match answers.csv.

• Videos are MP4.
• Photos are the processed copies: upright JPEG, up to 2000 pixels on the long side, with no location or camera data.
• Voice notes are M4A.

A file that could not be converted is included in the format the participant uploaded.

Seven days to download

Each ZIP is kept for 7 days and then deleted. After that, the Downloads tab says it has expired, and you can prepare a new one. When a study's participant data is deleted at the end of its retention period, its downloads are deleted too.

Who can do this

Owners, researchers and moderators can ask for downloads, and can download any ready ZIP on the study's Downloads tab. Clients cannot.

If the person who asked leaves the team before the ZIP is built, the download fails. Ask for a new one.

Note: These files contain participants' personal data. Keep them safe and delete them when the project no longer needs them. See Data privacy and retention.
