Taking part in a study
How to open your personal link, agree to take part, and find your tasks for each day.
You have been invited to a study. This page explains how to start, and how to find what to do each day. You only need your phone and its web browser. There is nothing to install.
Open your personal link
- Open the invitation email on your phone.
- Tap Join the study.
The link is only for you, so please do not share it. Your phone stays signed in, so you do not need the link again on this phone.
Read and sign the consent form
First you see a page that explains the study and how your answers are used.
- If you want another language, choose it at the top of the page.
- Read the text.
- Tick the boxes. Boxes marked Required must be ticked to take part. Boxes marked Optional are your choice.
- Type your full name to sign.
- Tap I agree, start the study.
If you do not want to take part, tap I do not want to take part.
The Today screen
After you sign, you see the Today screen. At the bottom of the screen there are three buttons: Today, Messages and Help.
The study runs over several days. Your first day is the day you sign, or the start date of the study if that is later. The top of the screen shows which day you are on, for example Day 2.
Below that, you see today's tasks:
- Open until shows the time until which you can do a task. Tap the task to start.
- Done means you sent it. Thank you!
- Some tasks let you send more than once. Then you see, for example, Sent 1 of 3 and Add another.
- Missed means the time for that task is over.
Under Coming up you see the next tasks. Opens shows the day, and sometimes the time, when each one opens.
If there is nothing to do, you see Nothing to do right now. New tasks appear when they open. When you have done every task, you see You have completed every task. Thank you!
Doing a task
- Tap the task.
- Read the instructions and answer the questions. Some questions ask for a video, a photo or a voice note. See Recording videos, photos and voice notes.
- Tap Send.
When you see Thank you! Your answers have been sent., you are done.
Reminders
When a new task opens, you may get a reminder, usually by email. You can turn reminders off on the Help screen. See Language, reminders and stopping.
Add the study to your home screen
You can add the study to your phone's home screen, so you can open it like an app.
- On iPhone, in Safari: tap the share button, then Add to Home Screen.
- On Android, in Chrome: tap the menu with three dots, then Add to Home screen or Install app.
If the study ever asks you to open your invitation link, open the link from your email again.
