Why in the moment
Closer to the moment.
Further from recall bias.
Diary studies
Tasks open day by day from each person’s own start, with reminders when they open, so you see change as it happens.
Captured in context
Video, photo, voice and text from the kitchen, the shop and the commute. No app to install.
Traceable insight
Tag answers, mark moments in a video, and keep every finding linked to the clip it came from.
Privacy by design
Consent signed in the participant’s language, location data stripped from photos, retention you set.
Real moments
Wherever life happens, your study is there

Morning routines
What people really do at home, from the first coffee onwards.

Shopper journeys
The shelf, the choice and the reason, at the moment of purchase.

In-home product tests
First use, day three and week two, in the participant’s own words.

Everyday journeys
Quick video diaries on the way to work, school or the gym.
How a study runs
From set-up to highlight in four steps
Set up
Write tasks and questions once and translate them with AI into any of 30 participant languages, from German and Polish to Japanese, Arabic and Hindi.
Invite
Add participants or import a spreadsheet. Each gets a personal link by email, WhatsApp or text message; they sign the consent form and start.
Capture
Participants record videos, take photos and leave voice notes. Uploads resume after a lost connection.
Review
Watch responses as they arrive with transcripts, ask follow-up questions, tag, highlight, find themes with AI and export.
In their own words
See what people do, not only what they remember
A face, a tone of voice and the room around them tell you more than any survey answer. Participants record in a minute, on the phone they already have.
Built for agencies
Everything your team and your client need
30 participant languages
Every screen, email and reminder participants see is in their language, including Arabic from right to left. Your own texts translate with your choice of AI provider.
Your team, your client
Owners, researchers, moderators and a read-only client view that shows participants by code only.
Follow-up questions
Ask a participant about one answer and get the reply in the same thread, by email and in the app.
Export everything
Answers as CSV for Excel or SPSS, highlights with notes, and all files as one ZIP, organised by participant.
Reminders that respect people
One reminder when a task opens, by email, WhatsApp or text message, never at night, and participants can switch them off.
Your own AI keys
Use our AI translation, or plug in your agency’s own provider: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, DeepL and more.
Interviews and group discussions
Video interviews and group discussions with up to 10 participants, with chat, an observation room for your client and recording.
Transcripts and AI analysis
Every video and voice note transcribed and translated. AI suggests themes, each with the quotes and clips behind it.
Highlight reels
Put the best moments into one video with titles and subtitles, then download it or share a private link.

Guides for in-the-moment research

What is mobile ethnography? A practical guide for research agencies
Mobile ethnography lets participants record their own lives on their phone. Here is what it is, when it beats other methods, how to plan a study, and what to watch out for.

How to design a diary study that people finish
Most diary studies lose people in the middle. Practical advice on length, task design, timing, reminders and follow-ups that keeps participants going to the last day.

How to plan a video in-home usage test, day by day
A practical plan for an in-home usage test (IHUT) with video: what to ask at unboxing, first use, repeat use and the end, how to compare products, and how to bring real use into the debrief.
Questions and answers
Can’t find your answer?
Search the help center or ask us. A person on our team answers, usually within one working day.
What is Zolensa?
Zolensa is a mobile ethnography and video diary platform for qualitative research agencies. Participants answer tasks on their own phone or computer with videos, photos, voice notes and text. Your team reviews, tags, highlights and analyses the answers, and runs live interviews and group discussions in the same place.
Do participants need to install an app?
No. The participant app works in the phone’s browser and can be added to the home screen. Participants sign in with the personal link from their invitation, so there is no password to forget.
Which languages does Zolensa support?
Participants use the app in 30 languages, including English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil), Polish, Turkish, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. You write your tasks once and translate them with AI in one click, or export them to a spreadsheet for a translator.
Can we run interviews and focus groups?
Yes. Plan one to one video interviews and group discussions with 2 to 10 participants, in the browser. Observers watch from an observation room without being seen, and sessions are recorded and transcribed.
How does Zolensa use AI?
AI writes transcripts of videos and voice notes, translates them, describes photos and screen recordings, and suggests themes across the study. Every theme links to the quotes and clips behind it, and your team accepts, edits or rejects it. You can use your agency’s own AI provider.
How is participant data protected?
Participants sign the consent form in their language before any task. Photos lose their location data, clients see participants by code only, files sit in private storage and each study has a retention period. See the security page for details.
How much does Zolensa cost?
Plans start at 149 US dollars a month for up to 25 active participants. Studies, team members and storage are unlimited on every plan, and there is a 14-day free trial with free test participants.
How much do WhatsApp, text messages and AI cost?
Each WhatsApp or text message costs its price for the recipient’s country, shown in the app. Transcripts cost 2 credits a minute and translations 1 credit per 1,000 characters. Email is free, and failed messages cost nothing.
